Concerts in 2026 – Watch this space!

The Spring Concert is a joint venture with Hanley Voices at Malvern Priory on May 9th 2026. The main feature will be Mozart’s C Minor Mass.

Our last concert in 2025 – the Christmas one with a ‘Gloucestershire Composers’ theme – took place at            The Wesley, Belle Vue Road in Cinderford on December 6th. Composers included Howells, Vaughan WIlliams and Elgar and although not a Glos connection it wouldn’t have been Christmas without a Rutter piece!

Thank you to all our friends, followers and supporters who came along on December 6th.

Summer 2025

The choir had a lovely time singing our midsummer musical miscellany – some were old favourites, some pieces were from the musicals, Simon & Garfunkel, Abba, Eric Whitacre and various others – and a couple of beautifully read poems. The strawberry cream tea seems to have been much appreciated. There were very few cake crumbs and precious little evidence of scones, jam and cream left on the refreshments table.

Spring 2025

Sir John Rutter’s ‘Magnificat’ opened the concert and was followed by a wide variety of pieces in different styles that echoed our theme.  Music in part 2 includes Franz Biebl’s beautiful Ave Maria, Elaine Hagenberg’s O Love, Amanda McBroom’s The Rose and an Agnus Dei with music composed by one of our sopranos – and more! Our soprano (Harriet Perfect) and oboe (Olivia Sterlini) soloists were very much appreciated.

We tried out – and were very pleased with – our new venue – the recently refurbished ‘The Wesley’ in Cinderford which was formerly a Methodist church. An added bonus was the onsite parking.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to hear us.

Concerts in 2024

Our summer concert in 2024 was at Maisemore Village Hall (GL2 8JE) on July 13th.

Our summer concert explored songs that relate to dance. What a variety of terpsichorean pieces we sang! Ranging from a composition attributed to Henry VIII, and songs by Elgar and Stanford we journeyed through musical films and the theatre culminating in an Abba finale! Dance on!

Our spring concert was …

Mozart Requiem, May 11th 2024 – with guest conductor, Janet Upton at Highnam Church.

Thank you to everyone who came to our May Concert and many thanks for the kind comments we received about the evening. The choir enjoyed singing the Requiem and we definitely gathered that our audience greatly appreciated our voices raised in song.

Christmas Concert Dec 2nd 2023

We were thrilled to welcome so many guests to our Christmas concert featuring Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’ at Highnam Church on December 2nd. Thank you to all our audience for venturing out! Although the weather was less kind than it could have been it was not as cruel as last year’s offering! Our musical director commented that ‘the temperature might have been on the chilly side, but the atmosphere and mood were nothing but warm and festive’.

Huge thanks are also due to the instrumentalists who played wonderfully, the volunteers who helped with selling tickets and programmes, all the choir members who, as well as singing, ‘mucked in’ to help with refreshments and everyone who regularly helps to make our concerts enjoyable for the choir and our guests.

The following rehearsal image gives a little of the flavour of what people will do, despite the weather, to make music together!

Concert of the Year 2023!

May 13th 2023 at 3pm – 40th Anniversary Concert – Duruflé’s Requiem at Tewkesbury Abbey with Hanley Voices

We had a wonderful time singing the Duruflé Requiem and a selection of choral classics in Tewkesbury Abbey. It was an excellent way to mark the 70 years of song that the two choirs have jointly ‘clocked up’. Singing with the chamber orchestra and the great organ at the Abbey made the occasion even more special.
